I received a timely reminder today of the importance of taking action!
A client, who historically had done very little on LinkedIn, was approached by a well-established company who was interested in working with them.
They said they had been following/watching the videos my client had been publishing on LinkedIn, and got in touch. I believe they may have been acquainted in the past, but it was the videos that spurred them into action.
(I recently wrote a piece on LinkedIn about the power of #RespectfulReminders – this story is evidence of how powerful that concept is)
Now, I’m never one to say that putting up videos on LinkedIn is necessarily going to generate a heap of new business directly.
Nice if it does, absolutely, but as a rule your LinkedIn activity forms just one part of a suite of reputation and profile building activities that, when implemented over time with purpose and consistency, should at least get you noticed and, hopefully, build recognition and trust in the marketplace in the long run.
Of course, these factors are often forerunners to commercial transactions and play a key role in the new business process.
(BTW if anyone 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 promise that your LinkedIn videos will have new customers banging at your door, errr, run! I once won a significant speaking contract after a person that I didn’t know reached out after watching my videos – but I still would be loathe to promise results like that)
And in a second timely reminder that reinforced another of my core beliefs (the power of personal branding), it was great to see my mate and go-to guy for all things social advertising – Myles Harris – announce today that he was retiring his long-held business name (Petrol Digital) in favour of operating as an “independent consultant” under his own name and (personal) brand – go Myles!
Onwards!
