If you want to create greater impact in your professional world – your chosen field of endeavour – you need to go over and above just doing a good job these days.
This entails getting out there and deepening the level of connection with people in your community and your desired target market – communicating with purpose and authenticity (ah yes, the ‘A’ word!).
Content is the fuel for this: it instigates conversations, which help build meaningful connections with like-minded people.
But you also need to TAKE ACTION!
Which brings me to a terrific group Zoom call I had this week with a number of participants from a workshop I ran pre-Xmas in Poole in the UK, organised by Mark Masters for his You Are The Media community.
The December workshop was all about playing a bigger game in 2024.
We came together to set some goals about a meaty (content-led) project we’d like to tackle in the new year. We then workshopped our ideas in a group setting so we could walk away with some purpose and direction for our projects.
We closed the workshop with a promise to each other that we would bring some ideas to life in the coming six weeks or so, or at least try to make some headway on our chosen project. It was all about being accountable to each other and having a timeline in place to encourage and help to frame what we promised.
So, rather than leave our ideas in the workshop, we organised to come together early in February to share actions we’d taken, and discuss progress achieved, or highlight any problems we were facing as a result.
Given I’d heard the participants’ enthusiasm for their ideas in the workshop, it was terrific to hear in our Zoom session how many of them had cracked on with their projects and were taking positive action towards their goals, including:
- refreshing a dormant YouTube channel,
- creating bite-sized Q&A videos for a very specific niche,
- organising video interviews with industry influencers with a view to publishing them on owned media channels
- overcoming resistance to publishing micro-videos on LinkedIn
- getting clear on the path forward in terms of creating content for a specific reason, for a specific audience
I left the Zoom call inspired by people’s enthusiasm, and hoping they can continue in their endeavours with help and encouragement from their co-participants from the workshop. 🙌
I wish you well for your big projects this year!
