EPISODE 11 OF THE REPUTATION REVOLUTION PODCAST
Public speaking fills many professional people with dread but if you can overcome your fear of standing on a stage and presenting to an audience, it can be one of the most powerful means of communication a thought leader has in their PR and marketing kit bag (not to mention empowering and fun to do).
Done well, with passion and purpose, delivering a keynote presentation to a relevant audience that’s receptive to your story and message will boost your credibility as a thought leader and subject matter expert.
Strategic perspective
The fact today your presentation will in all likelihood (depending of course where you’re presenting and who’s in the audience) be tweeted, Instagrammed, Vined and potentially blogged about, means you’ll receive extended reach for your message and with it implied third party endorsement. Which of course makes public speaking even more important from a strategic personal branding perspective.
But as anyone who has been put in a position to take the stage and present, this speaking caper is not exactly easy for the novice; there are numerous things that need to be addressed before and after the actual speaking gig itself, like the marketing and promotion, securing testimonials, dealing with agents and developing a fee structure etc.
In this episode of Reputation Revolution, I chat with Yvonne Adele, a well-known professional speaker, MC and speaking coach.
Yvonne (left) created the Ms Megabyte brand/persona in the mid 1990s. This led to a national media profile and best-selling book (Conquer Your Computer). Ms Megabyte was also the author of Australia’s PCs for Dummies, and a Telstra Business Women’s Awards Finalist. She eventually left the media behind to concentrate solely on speaking and consulting and has spoken to over 500 groups including NAB, Intel, Telstra, Schwarzkopf, LJ Hooker, Microsoft, Fujitsu and Westpac.
Yvonne has been the National Vice President of the National Speakers’ Association of Australia and twice Vic State President during which time she achieved the designation of CSP (Certified Speaking Professional), an accreditation held by only 100 speakers in Australia.
In this episode …
Yvonne provides tips and advice for thought leaders wanting to focus on speaking as a way to build their profile and credibility and generate income, whether directly via fees or indirectly via product sales and/or consulting gigs.
Topics covered include:

- developing a speaker’s kit,
- the different types of speaking gigs available to a thought leader,
